Baume & Mercier was founded in 1830 as the Baume watchmaking workshop by the brothers Louis-Victor and Célestin Baume in the village of Les Bois. With a focus on high quality, the company has gained an international reputation as one of the best watch manufacturers in the world. In the 1920s, a partnership with Paul Mercier began and the company took its current name, Baume & Mercier, which soon became one of the most important manufacturers of wristwatches.
The company's logo is the Greek letter Φ (Phi), which symbolizes the pursuit of equilibrium. Among the most famous Baume & Mercier models of the last decades are the Galaxie, Stardust, and Riviera. Baume & Mercier has been a member of the Vendome group, later Richemont, since 1988.
