The Victoria and Albert Museum in London announced recently that it had acquired Beyonce's famous Papillon Ring, following a donation from Beyonce.
The ring was designed by jewelry designer G (Glenn Spiro), who is based in London. The butterfly's wings are made of titanium and decorated with bright green tsavorites and colorless diamonds.
The ring design allows butterfly wings to be moved with the finger's movement, making it look like the butterfly is flying. This particular ring is an example of naturalism in contemporary jewelry.
Beyonce's Papillon Ring is now exhibited at the V & A Museum, along with jewelry that belonged to some of the most important women in history, such as Catherine the Great of Russia, Elisabeth I of England and Empress Josephine of France (Napoleon Bonaparte's wife).
In the video that follows, Glenn Spiro explains how he got to design the Beyonce ring.
