Rose Quartz is the pink variety of the widely used mineral Quartz.
Favorite gems of the same family are Amethyst, Agate, Citrine, Onyx, Jasper and many others. Quartz also appears in other colors in Jewellery with the most common being Smokey Quartz, Milky Quartz, and Blue Quartz.
Rose Quartz gets its pink color due to the presence of other minerals in its composition, such as titanium, iron, and magnesium, while recent X-ray studies have also shown the existence of dumortierite mineral. Rose quartz colors range from light, almost pale pink to pink/red.
Although Rose Quartz is abundant on earth, its transparency and color are not always of a sufficient quality to be used in jewellery. Rose Quartz is mainly mined from Madagascar, South Africa, Mozambique, India, and the US.
The Star Rose Quartz variety displays an asterism (the star effect), meaning that when a pointed light beam falls on it properly, it displays a six-ray star. Rose Quartz for use in jewellery is cut either in cabochon or beads, mainly to be used on necklaces and bracelets but it is also faceted for rings, earrings, and other jewellery. Its pink color makes Rose Quartz the most romantic gemstone. After all, since ancient times it symbolized pure love.
