A unique diamond was recently found in a diamond mine operated by the Indian company VD Global. It is a 0.329ct, D color, type IaAB diamond named Beating Heart, which has a small peculiarity. Inside it, there is a small free-moving diamond. The Beating Heart diamond has passed all the necessary checks and has been certified by the De Beers Diamond Institute.
The cavity likely formed due to the diamond's high-quality inner and outer layers containing a low-quality intermediate layer, the institute speculated. The middle part disappeared at some point between its formation and reaching the Earth's surface. Only the best material "survived", creating a separate diamond that can move freely within the outer shell.
In 2019, a similar diamond, the Matryoshka, was discovered in an Alrosa diamond mine.
